Icelandic eiderdown is a masterpiece of nature with unique insulating properties. Eiderdown is very large, yet finer and more densely branched than other types of down. The down bonds together to form a kind of fleece that insulates better than any other natural or artificial material. Eider ducks brave freezing temperatures and powerful polar storms with their feathers. They use their unique breast and belly down to protect their nests against the harsh Icelandic climate. Before the breeding season, the females naturally shed some of their feathers. They collect these and line their nests with them. Once the chicks have hatched, the nest is abandoned. The valuable eiderdown is then collected by hand, without disturbing the birds in their natural environment. And all of this for the unique, cozy duvets in our Luxury Lifestyle collection.
