Icelandic eiderdown is a masterpiece of nature with unique insulating properties. Eiderdown is very large, but finer and more densely branched than other types of down. The down bonds together to form a kind of fleece that insulates better than any other natural or artificial material. The eider ducks brave frigid temperatures and powerful polar storms with their feathers. They use their unique chest and belly down to protect their nests from the harsh Icelandic climate. Before the breeding season, the females naturally lose some of their feathers. They collect these and line their nests with them. When the chicks have hatched, the nest is left. The valuable eiderdown is then collected by hand, without disturbing the birds in their natural environment. And all this for the unique, cozy duvets from our Luxury Lifestyle collection.
